Things You'll Need:
- bitten down fingernails
-
Step 1
There are nasty tasting solutions that you can put on your fingernails. Every time you are tempted to bite them you quickly stop once you taste the horrible taste.
-
Step 2
Something that worked for me was to paint my stubby fingernails a bright color. When I brought my fingers up to bite my nails I would see the bright color and stop. Also, it was a little embarrassing to draw attention to my obviously not nice fingernails with the nail polish. This made me not want to bite them so they would grow.
-
Step 3
Another thing you can try it to grow your nails one at a time. Grow one fingernail while you bite the other nine. Then grow the next one and bite the other eight. It will take a while to grow your nails this way.
-
Step 4
A quicker approach is to leave one fingernail for biting and grow the other nine. Once you have nine nice nails it will be easy to stop biting the one that is left.
-
Step 5
There is also the gross out approach to stop biting your nails. Think about all the germs and who knows what else that is on your fingers and under your nails. YUCK! Think about that every time you want to bite your nails.
-
Step 6
Once you’ve grown your nails, treat yourself to a manicure. This might be the extra motivation you need to help you break your nail biting habit.
