Homemade cleaning solutions to clean off the hard water stains on your cookware.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lemon juice
  • Baking soda
  • Dish washing detergent, soap
  • Salt
  1. Step 1
    Cast-iron cookware

Cast-iron Cleaner. Manufacturers and lovers of cast-iron skillets and pans often advise us to "season" them. This means first washing them in warm water and detergent, or true soap, then coating them with cooking oil and heating them in the oven at 300 - 350 degrees F for an hour. If you leave the seasoning on the surface, it will have rust and stick resistance, and that will improve each time when you use the skillet. To preserve the seasoning, we are being advised not to wash them with detergent. When hard water stains develop, just fill the pans and pots with boiling water and a tablespoon of baking soda. Simmer for 30 minutes. Drain and wipe dry with cloth.

  2. Step 2
    Copper cookware

Copper Stain Remover. Copper cookware tarnishes readily and requires much polishing to stay bright. Other than polishing, there may be water spots that you might want to remove off of. You can dip a cloth into salt, and rub the bronze surfaces directly where you see dried-on water stains.

  3. Step 3
    Bronze cookware

Bronze Spot Cleaning Solution. Mix 1 tablespoon baking soda with 1 cup of lemon juice. Rub off the water stains by using a sponge dipped in the solution.
