Different manufactures of extension ladders have different locking mechanisms on their flies, also 50ft and longer extension ladders have special locks that won't be mentioned here.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • An extension ladder
  1. Step 1

Plant one foot firmly on the bottom rung. The other foot should be on the ground. Its important to keep your feet planted both on the ground and on the bottom rung. Failing to do so will result in having to reposition the ladder.

  2. Step 2

Lift the top part of the ladder with both hands. The top part of the ladder is usually the one closest to you. Watch your fingers there is a pinch point were the two pieces of the ladder lay together.

  3. Step 3

You should see the fly unlocking as you lift the top part of the ladder. Again, watch were your hands and feet are because the rungs are a perfect place to get them squished and hurt. It really is that easy.

Tips & Warnings
  • It can take a little muscle to get a ladder to budge.
  • Make sure your fly is locked after it is repositioned.
