1
Go to the drug store or supermarket and make your mom a gift basket. You can find all kinds of items your mother will enjoy at the drug store or supermarket. Look for things that are a little bit indulgent and that she might not buy for herself. Pick up some fancy bubble bath, moisturizer and soap, a foot spa, imported condiments, wine and gourmet coffee or tea. Add some chocolate or a sweet treat she enjoys. Place everything in a basket, gift box or gift bag, add a bow and you have a personalized gift ready to go.

2
Give her a magazine subscription. Even if you're very short on time, you can always find a supermarket or convenience store that sells magazines. Buy the current issue of a magazine she will enjoy and pop it in a gift bag with a card telling her she has a subscription. Just remember to follow through and actually purchase the magazine subscription.

Take her to the movies. Pre-pay for movie tickets at the movie theater and give them to her in a card. If you're really short on time, wrap up a bag of microwavable popcorn and include a card telling her you want to take her out to a movie. Add a dinner invitation as well and give your mother a night out.

Buy her a gift card. With a gift card, your mother can pick out her own gift -- so you'll be sure she'll like it. Many retail stores, drug stores and supermarkets carry an assortment of gift cards that can be used at popular retail stores nationwide. If you're really pressed for time, a gift card is a handy option. Pick up a greeting card and put the gift card inside. Be sure to buy your mother a gift card for a retailer she enjoys.

Tips & Warnings
Keep chocolates or other treats as well as gift bags, greeting cards and envelopes at home for last minute gift emergencies. You can find gift bags and greeting cards at drug stores and discount stores.
If you give mom flowers, try to find a live plant instead of a bouquet. A live plant will last much longer than a bouquet. Many supermarkets and convenience stores sell live plants.
If you forgot about Mother's Day entirely, make sure you give your mother a thoughtful gift in the following days.
