Read on for easy instructions that will solve most of your toy management problems.

Here I describe how to make a toy storage system. Toy sets are stored in squares of fabric. Children play with toys on the fabric square. Pick up is a breeze - just pick up the four corners, hang up, and it's done!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • one piece of square fabric for each set of toys
  • four pieces of 6" long ribbon or yarn per fabric square
  • one nail per toy set
  • one length of wood (approx 12-18 inches per set of toys) - wood should be at least 2 inches wide and 1/2 inch thick
  • one screw per stud behind mounting wall
  1. Step 1

(Hem the edges of the fabric squares if desired)
Sew or tie the ends of each ribbon (or yarn) piece together to make four loops per fabric square.

  2. Step 2

Place one loop at each corner of each fabric square, put each fabric corner through the ribbon/yarn loop, and sew or tie the fabric together so that the loop slides freely back and forth through the corner of the fabric.

  3. Step 3

Hammer nails evenly along the length of the wood.

  4. Step 4

Mount the piece of wood on the wall, careful to screw through and attach to the studs.

  5. Step 5

Place toy sets on the fabric squares, gather all four corners of each square together, and hang on the nails.

  6. Step 6

    Label if desired.

Tips & Warnings
  • coordinate fabrics to toy sets, to child, to room, etc...
  • keep toy bags out of reach of small children to prevent disorganization
  • train children to play with each toy set on its fabric square, and to pick up corners and hang (if possible) when finished
  • allow child to play with only one bag at a sitting/per day, etc...
  • instead of nails, use hooks for a nicer look
