Shaving your legs for the first time is a rite of passage for most girls. My first time was a disaster - I still have the two inch scar on my leg to prove it! By taking some time to prepare ahead of time, your first time shaving can be much smoother than mine was!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A good razor
  • Shaving gel
  • warm water
  • a time when you are not in a rush
  1. Step 1

Get yourself a good razor. Grabbing a dull razor that was already in the bathroom is not a good idea. Neither is buying a package of cheap razors that cost two dollars for ten of them. And definitely buy a razor intended for a woman, not a man.

  2. Step 2

Take a hot shower. Getting your skin nice and warm will make shaving easier.

  3. Step 3

When you are nice and warm in the shower, turn the water from shower flow to tub flow.

  4. Step 4

Sit on the side of the tub and lather up one leg.

  5. Step 5

Take your razor and wet it a bit. Now starting just above your ankle, slide the razor up towards your knee, in one straight strip. Use just enough pressure to scrape the shaving gel off of your legs - any more pressure and you will cut yourself.

  6. Step 6

Continue shaving, one strip at a time. Take special care around your knees and ankles. Those are common places to cut yourself. Repeat with your other leg.

  7. Step 7

Rinse your legs off and feel for spots that were missed. Some spots may feel scratchy or still just plain hairy. Put a dab of shave gel on those spots and try again!

  8. Step 8

If you mess up and cut yourself, don't worry. It's happened to all of us! Clean the cut and use a band-aid if necessary. If it's really bad, wear pants until it heals, so you don't have to explain to everyone you know how you got that cut!

Tips & Warnings
  • There are some razors out there with the moisturizer/shaving gel built in around the razor. These are great for beginners because it reduces the chance of cutting.
