How to Apply Foundation to Skin
Applying makeup properly begins with selecting the right shade of foundation for your skin tone. Try several different shades that appear close to your tone; dab some on your jawline and check it out in the mirror under natural sunlight. According to the beauty experts at "Glamour," you shouldn't notice your ideal shade standing out from your natural skin tone. Once you've selected the proper shade, prepare your skin by cleansing and moisturizing, then distribute small dabs of foundation around your face. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Wash your face with your favorite facial cleanser and pat dry with a soft towel.
-
2
Massage moisturizer into your skin and allow it to settle for five minutes.
-

3
Dab pea-sized amounts of foundation primer onto your cheeks, chin, nose and forehead. Gently spread the primer evenly over your whole face with a fingertip. Wait about two minutes for it to dry. Foundation primer reduces the appearance of your pores and helps your makeup last longer.
-
4
Shake the bottle of foundation well if you use a liquid foundation.
-
5
Apply small dabs of foundation to your cheeks, chin, nose and forehead. Use less than you think you might need; applying foundation in several thin layers yields better results than one thick layer. You can always add a little more later.
-
6
Use a foundation brush, your fingers or a triangle makeup sponge to evenly distribute the foundation over your face. Work your way from the middle of your face to the edges. As you approach the neckline, use a lighter touch with your foundation to avoid the appearance of a line between skin with foundation and skin without it.
-
7
Apply a translucent powder to set your foundation. Start near the hairline toward your eyes, travel down your cheekbone, up to your nose and down the other side. Finish by applying the powder back up to the hairline on the other side of your face.

Tips & Warnings
Avoid caking on thick layers of foundation near your eyes and mouth. These areas are subject to many small muscle movements, which can crease your makeup.
