Things You'll Need:
- Corn kernels
- Corn cracking grinder
- water
- Something to catch the ground corn once it comes out of the grinder
-
Step 1
KernelsRinse the kernels. Let them soak for an hour, then rinse them again. Rub the kernels in your hands to remove excessive, loose skins. By not doing so, the meal it succumbed to can be too yellow. This adds a bitter taste.
-
Step 2
If you are making masa, you cook the kernels in limewater and then let them soak overnight, then everything still holds true for this step as it does in Step 1.
-
Step 3
Clamp the grinder to a table. Yank at it a bit to make sure it is stable.
-
Step 4
Place something at the base of the grinder to catch the corn once it has come out.
-
Step 5
GrinderPour the kernels in the top; you will have to do this in several batches.
-
Step 6
Crank it, alternating hands as it can become very tiring. Then you have the ground corn kernels all ready to use. This can be used for masa, bird feed, as flour in several different kinds of dough, or whatever it is you want to use it for.
