The most frugal way to make a craft bag to store all your sewing needs.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 pairs old blue jeans
  • sewing machine
  • heavy duty thread
  • extra fabric to line your bag
  1. Step 1

Cut the back pockets off the back of one of your jeans. Keep that pair for another craft project.

  2. Step 2

Cut the second pair of jeans below the zipper, leave a 2 inch allowance below the zipper. Turn your jean inside out. (right sides will be facing together)

  3. Step 3

To make handles for your new tote bag use the pant legs off the jeans you just cut. Cut two 8inch strips for short handles or two 16inch strips for long handles.

  4. Step 4

Mark 1 inch from the cut of jean and sew. Double stitch at the corners.
Attach your jean handles at the top and sew, make sure you double stitch as the handles get a lot of wear and tear.

  5. Step 5

Pin your lining fabric to the jean and sew. Be careful! You don't want to sew your new bag closed.

  6. Step 6

Attach the cut out pockets to your lining. You may pick whichever side you want. Sew the sides and bottom to the lining. Do not sew the top of the pocket.

  7. Step 7

Turn new tote bag inside out. Now you have plenty of pockets on the front, in the back, and on the inside for all your crafting notions.

Tips & Warnings
  • This bag is great for holding scissors, thread, scrap pieces of fabrics in the pockets.
  • You can make the bag as big or as small as you need, it all depends on the size of jeans you decide to use.
  • Always read your sewing machines recommendations and warnings prior to starting any project.
