When a new baby is born, the mother can use plenty of help. After giving birth to a child or children, the mother will most likely feel tired and drained. Here are some simple steps to take to help show your support to a new mommy.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Spare time
  • A helping spirit
  1. Step 1

One of the ways that you can help to support a new mother, is by visiting her after she gives birth. If you have a cold you should consider waiting until you are cold free to visit. Be sure not to overstay your welcome because it can become tiring for her to accommodate too many visitors.

  2. Step 2

During your visit to the new mommy, find out if there is anything that she would like to be done. Most times she will definitely needs some support. Support is even needed more if she has twins or more. The baby's laundry can add up easily. Before offering any support and making promises be sure to check your schedule to see if you have spare time.

  3. Step 3

Some babies arrive earlier than the time that was predicted. Sometimes when this happens, everything may have not been prepared for the baby. This would be a great time to offer support. You can do that by offering to pick up some items from the store, for the baby.

  4. Step 4

All new mothers have to eat to maintain their strength and to produce milk for the baby. You can be of great support if you can run over and help with the meal preparation. Dishes will need to be washed and ready for the the next meal. This is something you can offer to do also.

  5. Step 5

After giving birth to a baby, most times all the mommy wants to do is to sleep, but with the new baby in the house, that may be impossible to do. You can watch the baby while the mommy gets her rest. This would even be really appreciated if it's at nights. Taking turns to change the diapers would also be great.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some new mothers goes through a short period of postpartum depression after giving birth. This is the time that she needs the support of the people closest to her.
  • Be careful of the things that you say to a new mother, some things may seem trivial to you, but it can really hurt her feelings.
