In today's world we don't think much about radio' s. We turn it on in our car to keep us entertained. But have you thought about using a radio to contact people? Today, amateur radio operators use there radios around the world to contact each other. There are many reasons that operators get there licence. Someone may like doing it to see how far they can talk to someone. Others like to see how many contacts with other operators as possible. And still others maybe disabled and use there licence to keep in contact with the outside world. What ever the reason, there are many things you can do once you get licence by the FCC. But how can you study for it? Read below for some ways to study for your first test.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ARRL Ham Radio License Manual
  • Time To Study
  • Internet access
  1. Step 1

ARRL Ham Radio License Manual. The ARRL licence manual is a great start on learning the basics of amateur radio. This manual explains in detail what you need to know to pass Technician test. The Manual includes a study guide in the back of the book. There are 300 questions in the back, all of them are the questions that you may be asked on your test.

  2. Step 2

QRZ Website. You have finished reading your licence manual, and have gone over all the questions; or read the book and want to try something different. Go to www.qrz.com/p/testing.pl. This site lets you chouse what licence you are studying for, pick a test, and it will ask you random questions. There are 100 tests for each license, in random order. I suggest that once you can complete 20 tests at 80% or better, go take the test.

  3. Step 3

Pay Sites. I do not advise going to a site that makes you pay for them to give you a test. All though most have a tracking program to see what areas you are having trouble in with the test, there really is no reason to have to pay for questions you can find free on the internet.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check out www.qrz.com/p/testing.pl for 100 free tests for Technician, General, and Extra Class.
  • For more info check out: QRZ.com, EHAM.com, and ARRL.com website.
  • Never operate and amateur radio stations unless you have a amateur licence, are with an operator with a licence, or if there is a emergency and contacting someone on the radio is your last resort(no cell phone, no other means of contact)
