Things You'll Need:
- Window Tint
- Gila Application Solution
- Rubber Squeegee
- Scotch Tape
- Razor Blade
- Credit Card
- Paper Towels
-
Step 1
Spray Gila Solution on both inside and outside of the window you are tinting. Use a paper towel to wipe window clean. Then use squeegee to dry window. (Any dirt left on the window will cause a bubble in the tint)
-
Step 2
Spray the outside/exterior of the window with the Gila Solution. Then take your window tint, and lay it on the outside of the window with the clear sheet facing out, film facing in. (If not sure which side is which, rub the tint against itself and the sticky side is the tint and the slick side is the clear sheet) Slide the tint so the bottom lines up with the rubber gasket at the bottom of the window. Then take a razor blade and cut along the vertical sides of the window first. Then lift the bottom of the tint, and roll the window down about two inches. Again take the razor blade and cut along the top of the window using the window as a guide.
-
Step 3
Roll the window back up and spray the inside of the window generously with the Gila Solution. (You can never use too much solution) Roll the window back down approx. two inches. Lift the tint off the outside and lay the tint on the inside of the window lining the tint up about 1/8 of an inch from the top of the window. Be sure to fold the bottom of the tint up so that it does not collect any dirt from the door panel.
-
Step 4
Use the credit card to push all the air bubbles to the nearest edge. Once the top of the tint has sealed itself to the window, roll the window up and slide the bottom of the tint under the lower gasket. Use the credit card to push all the solution out from under the tint and air bubbles to the nearest edge.
-
Step 5
Once all air bubbles and solution has been removed from under the tint, clean the outside of the window again and your tint application has been completed. Be sure you do not roll down the window for two days as the tint must fully adhere to the window. Repeat for all windows.

on 3/16/2009 I just installed some new bay windows over the summer but now I’m thinking about maybe getting some decorative window tinting. Does anyone have any experience with that? I am in the Grand Rapids area and someone recommended a place called http://www.fivestarwindowtinting.com. They seem to do all sorts of different window tinting, but I guess I don’t know enough about the window tinting business and whether or not decorative window tinting is the direction I want to go. Does anyone have any recommendations with decorative window tinting?
