    • 1

Remove the mattress from the bottom bunk. Place the bottom bunk mattress on the top bunk for added sleeping comfort.

Unscrew the hardware holding the bed rails in place. Depending on the type of screw, you may need a Phillips head or a flathead screwdriver. Remove the rails from the bed and place each rail into the dorm closet.

    • 3

Gather any loose screws or hardware. Places these in a ziplock bag and put it by the rails in the closet.

    • 4

Choose what furniture to place under the loft. Move the selected furniture into place and enjoy added floor space.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the rails fit tightly, use a hammer to loosen from the bedposts.

  • If you have two twin beds instead of a bunk bed, check to see if they can stack. If so, stack and use the steps above to create a loft bed.

  • Ask permission from the dorm authorities before converting the dorm bed into a loft bed.

  • Do not attempt to build your own loft bed from scratch. Instead, purchase a loft bed for your dorm room. You can keep it and use it throughout your college years.
