Widgets are those snazzy little interactive modules you see on websites that bring you information from another site into the one you're viewing, or otherwise allow you to interact within the widget. Examples of widgets include games, clocks, music, maps, weather, and even television. An RSS (Real Simple Syndication) widget allows you to display RSS feeds from one of your sites (for example, a blog) into another website (e.g., your MySpace page). It's a great way to increase readership on your site. Want to try it out? Here's how:

Instructions

    • 1

Go to your favorite widget website. Widgetbox.com provides a good variety of RSS widgets. SpringWidgets (www.thespringbox.com) is another popular widget website.

    • 2

Perform a search on the term "rss." Several RSS widgets should display.

    • 3

Select the widget you want on your website. Some options include a scrolling RSS widget, simple RSS widget, and multiple RSS feed widget.

    • 4

On the right hand side of the widget setup page, enter the feed URL(s) from the source page (e.g., your blog). You can obtain the RSS feed from your page by clicking the RSS feed icon or the link, "RSS." The URL that displays in your browser is the RSS feed URL, which you will need to copy to your clipboard and paste into the RSS Feed field on the widget setup page.

    • 5

Set other options as desired (scroll speed, background color, etc.).

    • 6

Copy the code to your clipboard and paste it into your Web page. This could be a MySpace or Facebook page, blog, .com, or any other webpage that accepts HTML.

    • 7

Save (or publish) your Web page to test your nifty new RSS feed widget.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some websites such as MySpace don't accept Javascript. In this case, you must grab a widget with strictly HTML code.
