Things You'll Need:
- Large Marshmallows
- Lollipop Sticks
- Wax Paper
- Candy Coating Melts (assorted flavors)
- Sorted candies, cookies, candy chips, colored sugar
- Styrofoam (optional)
-
Step 1
Suggested candy coatings for this recipe: Crumble or crush any of the following: Oreo cookies, Pecan Sandies, or other cookies, malted milk balls, Reeses Peanut Butter Candy Balls, peppermint sticks, or any other candy or cookie of your choice, pecans, walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, sesame seeds. Grate different flavors of chocolate.
-
Step 2
Other candy coating recipe suggestions: Any of the following candy baking chips: chocolate peanut butter, butterscotch, mint, etc. There is a wide selection of candy and cooking flavorings on the market you can add to melted candy coatings or colored sugar. You can even flavor will some of the pure essential oils on the market.
-
Step 3
Having trouble locating the ingredients? Check out the Essential Oil and Wilton cake and candy supplies in 'The Store' located at http://sandhillkar.synthasite.com (links in resources below).
-
Step 4
Step 1) Place a sheet of wax paper on your cabinet. If you have a piece of styrofoam, place on top the the wax paper.
-
Step 5
Step 2) Melt the candy coat in a double boiler stiring constantly. You can melt in a microwavable bowl in the microwave using 20-30 seconds heating, then stir, then repeat 20-30 seconds heating and then stiring until candy melts. If the melted candy mixture becomes too thick, add solid shortening one teaspoon at a time until the appropriate consistancy is obtained.
-
Step 6
Step 3) Stick two marshmallows on a stick. I purchased 8 inch long sticks.
-
Step 7
Step 4) Roll the marshmallows into the melted candy using a spoon to help coat the marshmallows.
-
Step 8
Step 5) To cool, lay the coated marshmallows onto the wax paper or insert the stick into the styrofoam. If you need a quick cooling, place into the freezer or refrigerator about one or two minutes. DO NOT ALLOW TO COOL SOLID. Roll the marshmallow on a stick into the colored sugar or crushed candy or cookies or drizzle on melted flavored candy coatings. Return to wax paper or of stick in styrofoam to completed cool.
-
Step 9
Step 6) Insert each candy coated marshmallow stick into a clear plastic candy bag or sandwich bag. Tie the bag with a pretty ribbon.
-
Step 10
Step 7) Place candy treats into gift bags or insert individual treats into mini Christmas stockings.
