The first thought that a bride thinks about when buying a wedding dress is that she wants to look perfect. But how do you pick that perfect dress to ensure that you will look perfect? Picking the best dress shape can be key in making all the difference.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

A dropped waist wedding gown is the most wellknown style that has a seam at or below the hip area where the skirt begins. This style is is the most universal and looks good on everyone. Paired with the right skirt style and you have a great gown.

  2. Step 2

For most, an empire waistline can be the best. An empire dress is defined by the waistline being right under the bust. In most cases this can camoflouge any unwanted weight in the midsection by framing the smallest part of your waist. Though an empire can work for most, it doesn't work for all! Those who are in a larger plus size may feel that they look "pregnant" in this style!

  3. Step 3

A sheath style dress is a straight dress with no waist seam that runs straight down to the floor usually with little or no flair at the bottom. In my experience (and this is my opinion here), a sheath gown looks best on those who are smaller framed or where are small size. This dresses can be very unforgiving and show any and every line or curve that you may not want to show.

  4. Step 4

A ballgown can be a popular choice for those seeking a Cinderella fairytale. A ballgown is categorized by it full, large skirt that's very grand. In most cases this skirt style can work for any woman of any size, but many larger framed women say that it makes them feel larger. This can many times be a very heavy style so be prepared to get tired.

  5. Step 5

An A-line skirt is the most common skirt type. Named after it's look, the skirt forms an A flairing out from the waist to the floor. This style really does look great on eveyrone, no matter shape, size, or even age!

  6. Step 6

Last, and sometimes least, is the teacup style. This is a shorter skirt style that generally comes down to the calve. Some brides like this style for summer or outside weddings, but if you're short statured then this style can make you look shorter. I only recommend this style for those taller than 5' 6".

Tips & Warnings
  • Try on every style that works for your body type before deciding what style you trully want. Many women go to the store saying that want only one style but once they try on a different style they end up loving it.
  • Play around with different necklines like strapless, sweetheart, sleeves, cap sleeves, off the shoulder, and straps. Many necklines can change the look of the dress and the way it looks on you!
