How to Defrost a Turkey Fast

Defrosting a Turkey is easy and can be done overnight, while you sleep.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Turkey
  • Large enough plastic vessel to cover entire Turkey w/water
  • Water (enough to cover Turkey)
  1. Step 1

    You can defrost your turkey at night, while yo sleep.

  2. Step 2

    Advantages to thawing a turkey in water.

    1. Do you need the fridge space. Thawinwing a turkey in the fridge can take 3 to 4 days.

    2. Saves time and headache.

  3. Step 3

    Place Turkey (still wrapped) in plastic tub, breastside down.

  4. Step 4

    Cover completely with clean water. If the water from your sink is not drinkable, do not use it to thaw your turkey. If you must, boil it before and let it cool before using it to thaw your turkey.

  5. Step 5

    Temperature should be a around 70 degrees. If it is colder it may take longer to defrost the turkey.

  6. Step 6

    Do not place turkey near a heat source.

  7. Step 7

    Defrost time. Allow around 30 minutes per pound to defrost the turkey. Increase time if your home is cold. Decrease time if your home is hotter.

Tips & Warnings
  • For a very large bird (more than 15 pounds) change the water halfway through the thawing process.
