Avoid layovers at busy airports. You can check online on the faa.gov site to find the busy airports. Also try and avoid delays due to inclement weather.

Have your own travel blanket and travel pillow. Many airlines now charge for these.

Realize that if you are trying to bring a wrapped gift through the airport they might need to unwrap gifts to check the contents. It's probably best to bring the gift unwrapped, and wrap it when you reach your destination.

Check the traffic sites for peak travel times. You want to avoid the roads when they are most congested. Trafficland and traffic are online sites with up to the minute travel reports.
Step 5

Remember that rest stops are often packed. Take along extra snacks to avoid long lines.
