Make Alternative Thank You Cards
Make Alternative Thank You Cards

The important part of saying thank you is showing that you're thankful. I would much rather have a picture of a child enjoying the gift I gave than a generic thank you note written by a busy mom with no time for such things. The wonderful part about picture thank you cards is that you can easily email them out to family and friends. If you have relatives that would prefer something in the mail (or don't do that new fangled computer thing) you can print the picture out at home (or at your local big box store) and send it out just like a regular thank you card. And best of all, it's a lot more personal than an e-card (been there, done that, like this better).

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Camera
  • Computer
  • Publisher, Photoshop or internet connection
  • Email
  1. Step 1

Decide what kind of thank you card you'd like to send. Will you send out one picture to everyone that gave your child a gift or individual thank you cards to each friend? Your decision will depend on how much time you have, how comfortable you are with photo software and how cooperative your child is when you go to take pictures

One way to say thank you is to write it on a chalk board, white board, aquadoodle or craft paper, have your child wear or hold up the gift and then snap a picture.

Another method is to write your thank you on something small and have your child hold it up. This is also a great way to say thank you for art supplies, you can use the supplies to make the thank you.

For those more comfortable with photo software the opportunities are endless as you get creative with pictures, text and clip art.

The most rewarding thing about giving a gift is knowing that the recipient loved it but often parents opt to not open gifts at a child's party. If you are one of those parents consider making a video of your child opening gifts and editing it down to the highlights. Your friends and family will be thrilled to see your child opening up their gift and squealing in delight. Since eHow is not currently supporting video uploads I've linked my example in the resource section below.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't have photo editing software? Don't worry! There are some great free online options. Check out the resources below.
  • Make sure you spell check your picture thank you cards before sending them out.

on 12/16/2008 I don't have kids, but I'm planning to take photos of myself enjoying people's presents. My friends will get a kick out of those--thanks for the great idea.

on 12/16/2008 Where were you 30+ years ago when my 8 children were young and I was an over worked stressed Mom? I sent the link to this article to my daughters (I have four of them), and hopefully it will help them now. Make it a great day, Sandy a.k.a. Mom
