Vodka is one of the most versatile alcoholic beverages in the world. Derived from the Slovak word "voda," meaning "water", vodka made its way into the homes of Americans in the 1970s, quickly winning over bourbon lovers due to its higher ethanol levels, which induce quicker intoxication. Therefore, because vodka is the main ingredient in the French Horn cocktail, the drink must be mixed and proportioned properly, or its fruity flavor will be overpowered by its strong spirits. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Chill the cocktail glass prior to mixing and pouring the French Horn cocktail. The coolness of the glass brings an added enjoyment to the drink, which makes this an excellent cocktail for a hot day and/or a summer party.

    • 2

Prepare your fruit. The lemon and orange should both be washed and sliced into 1/4-inch slices to serve as a garnish for the finished cocktail. Store the remaining slices in a plastic container and refrigerate for use in later drinks.

    • 3

Salt the rim of the chilled glass by dipping it into a saucer layered with sea salt. The salt will balance out the strong citrus flavors with those of the vodka and raspberry liqueur.

    • 4

Pour the vodka, lemon juice and raspberry liqueur in a cocktail shaker of ice. Shake it up and pour the mix through the shaker's strainer and into the cocktail glass. The ice should remain in the shaker and not be added to the drink.

    • 5

Add a stirrer straw to the cocktail glass, along with a cocktail cherry pierced with a toothpick. The final two garnishes are the lemon and orange slices anchored to the side of the cocktail glass.

    • 6

Repeat the recipe for future French Horn cocktails.

Tips & Warnings

  • Whenever possible, use fresh fruit for your cocktail garnishes.

  • The French Horn recipe should not be altered or adjusted. Doing so will change the content and flavor of the cocktail. The French Horn cocktail should not be mixed in advance or in mass quantities. Each drink should consist of separately prepared pours. As with any alcoholic beverage, refrain from operating a motor vehicle or heavy machinery after consumption.
