Instructions

    • 1

Cut the existing watch band from the watch. Do not remove the pin that connects the watch band to the watch if it is removable.

    • 2

Measure wrists using the measuring tape. It will work better if you measure each other's wrists. Add 2 1/2 inches to the measurement. Cut a piece of ribbon using your customized measurement.

    • 3

Thread the ribbon down between the watch and the watch pin, on one side of the watch, under the watch and up between the watch and the watch pin on the other side.

    • 4

Turn the ends of the ribbon under a 1/2-inch to give the watch band finished ends that will not fray. Glue the ends using the craft glue. Allow the ends to dry.

    • 5

Place the ribbon watch band around your wrist and overlap the ends. Mark the overlap placement with straight pins. Do not pin the ends together. Again, enlist the help of a partner for this step. Take the watch off your wrist.

    • 6

Glue a 3/4-inch piece of Velcro to the wrong side at one end of the ribbon watchband. Glue the other half of the Velcro to the right side of the other end of the watchband. Allow the glue to dry.

    • 7

Lay the watchband out on a flat surface. Arrange the charms, beads, acrylic jewels or whatever decorative trims you have gathered, on the right side of the ribbon watch band. Glue the decorations in place. Allow the glue to dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Watches can be purchased at the craft store, with no watchband attached, to allow you to more easily craft your own. Purchasing inexpensive watches from the dollar store will allow the girls to make several ribbon watches to match what ever outfit they are wearing. If the pins in the watches are removable, they can make several ribbon watch bands to be interchangeable on the same watch. Simply remove the watch pin with a metal nail file, place the ribbon against the watch and replace the pin.
