Things You'll Need:
- (for the Mushroom sauce)
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1/2 cup low-fat milk
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 tablespoons mushrooms, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon chopped onion
- 1 tablespoon reduced-fat unsalted butter, melted
- (for the main dish)
- 4 steaks of halibut
- 2 teaspoons of ginger, grated
- 2 gloves of garlic, chopped
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon of dry mustard
- 1/2 cup oil
-
Step 1
In a food storage bag, mix ginger, garlic, sugar and mustard. Coat both sides of the steaks and marinate for at least 4 hours.
-
Step 2
Take the steak out of the bag and reserve the seasoning mix. Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Sear the steaks and turn them frequently. Keep basting the fish with the seasoning mix. Be careful not to dry the fish. Turn off heat when they are "well done". Remove the fish steaks from the oil, set aside.
-
Step 3
On medium heat, use the same pan (do not drain the oil) that you seared fish with to stir-fry the onions for about 8 minutes. Turn down heat to low. Add the mushrooms. Cook for another 2 minutes. Break the mushrooms with a spatula while cooking (they will become soft and crumble naturally in the heat).
-
Step 4
In a small bowl, combine cornstarch, olive oil, melted butter and milk until smooth. Stir in the onions and mushrooms.
-
Step 5
Place the halibut steaks on serving plates with the mushroom sauce on the side. This recipe is for 4 people.
