- Business location
-
Step 1
Create a mission statement. It should be one sentence that describes your business. For example, "I plan on offering organic pizza to consumers within Los Angeles in order to meet the needs of health conscious people." This statement clearly describes what kind of pizza business you want. Keep your mission statement in a place where you can see it, to remind yourself of why you are in business.
-
Step 2
Write out a five-year business plan. This plan should be an outline of how you plan to succeed in your pizza business. It should include details about several areas: capital, marketing, customer service and community relations. On a piece of paper, detail exactly what you plan to do in each area, step by step. When you are finished, you should have a timeline that will show exactly what you'll be doing at any given moment during the next five years.
-
Step 3
Get a food license. You can apply for one at your local City Hall. It will allow you to prepare and sell food to others. Without one, this activity is illegal. Also, if you plan to sell liquor with your pizza, you need to a for that as well.
-
Step 4
Raise money for your pizza business. Do it by getting a combination of funds from investors, banks and government grants. By getting money through three avenues, you will have a better chance of raising all of the money you need to start your business.
-
Step 5
Find a location. Whether you plan on having a mom-and-pop style cafe or takeout joint, you need to find the right location. The right one is in an area where people like to go, a place that fits into your vision. Look for a spot in a mall or busy business district. Find at least three locations, so if the first one you pick is either too expensive or wrong in some other way, you can have another choice.
-
Step 6
Get your equipment. Make a list of what you need to start up your pizza business. Buy a pizza oven, rolling pins and other items needed for your business. This list should also include food and furniture for your location.
-
Step 7
Hire employees. Get ones who are energetic and believe in your business philosophy. Make sure to hire them at least one month prior to the opening of the business. Why? You can use a few of them to help you set things up for opening day.
-
Step 8
Market your new business. A month before you open your doors, start advertising. Send out fliers. Post ads in the local newspaper and on Internet social sites. Give out coupons. Let the public know that you are open for business and ready to serve them delicious pizza.
