Clean a Laptop Screen

Laptop screens need to be cleaned delicately, so they do not scratch. Here are some helpful hints to clean a laptop screen safely.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Your first step would be to make sure that you have what you need. If you do not have something you need, you will want to go buy it.

  2. Step 2

When cleaning a laptop screen you want to make sure you are using 100% cotton. A t-shirt, sock, anything as long as it is 100% cotton. Other blends, such as cotton/polyester, can have stiff pieces of filament in them, which can scratch your screen. You do not want that.

  3. Step 3

One of the best things to clean with is a Isopropyl alcohol. It is 91% pure alcohol and 9% de-ionized water. You can get this at your local drugstore. It works good for electronics because it evaporates quickly and it doesn't leave a residue. You will want to mix this 1:1 with distilled water. This is good for cleaning laptops screens that are not heavily soiled. You can also use a mixture of vinegar and water, 1:1 also.

  4. Step 4

Apply your solution to a cloth, never directly on the screen, just enough to moisten it. Rub on your screen in a counter clockwise motion.

Tips & Warnings
  • Many electronics stores also sell kits you can buy that come with an anti-static cloth and solution. These can be used to clean your screen.
  • Never use household cleaners, window cleaners, or tap water on a laptop screen, they contain ammonia, and can do damage.
  • Also never use paper towel or facial tissue. They contain wood particles that can scratch.
  • You should also never use just a dry cloth. Always make sure it is damp. Using a dry one will only move the dust particles around and can scratch your screen too.
