Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Begin to prepare for the match three days in advance, if possible.

  2. Step 2

    Think about your diet, sleeping habits and practice routines prior to the match so your mind will be at ease.

  3. Step 3

    Prepare a strategy according to your opponent, if possible. Incorporate your strategy into your practices leading up to the match.

  4. Step 4

    Go into the match with an attitude that you are going to stay out there as long as it takes. Don't count on a quick win; be ready to go the distance.

  5. Step 5

    Visualize yourself serving the ace and winning the match.

  6. Step 6

    Read or watch motivational material.

  7. Step 7

    Keep a positive attitude up until, and through the match.

  • If you have a trainer or coach, confer with him or her for mental pointers.
  • Talk with other players about techniques they use for mental preparedness.
