        Amble around the Pearl Street Mall on Pearl Street in downtown Boulder. Find a full array of retail stores and cafes and restaurants. It is also a great place for people watching. Check the Downtown Boulder website for a calender of events that take place on the mall.

        Rent a bike from University Bikes on the Pearl Street Mall, or one of many other bike shops around town. Act like a local and engage in the preferred mode of transportation for Boulder residents. The Boulder Creek Path, which runs for 16 miles, is a beautiful ride. There are also bike lanes throughout the city if you would like to explore the town.

        Visit the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse, a gift from Boulder's sister city Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Enjoy an incredibly extensive selection of tea in an elaborate interior, all hand built, painted and carved, or the outdoor courtyard. The teahouse also serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, Monday though Friday, and brunch and dinner on weekends, in addition to an afternoon tea.

        Stop by the Boulder Farmer's Market, which runs from April through the end of October. The open air market features locally grown produce and baked goods. It is open Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings.

        Sample wine at the Boulder Creek Winery, located at Odell Place off Highway 119. The tasting room, open weekend afternoons all seasons, but with extended hours in the summers, offers complimentary samples and tours of the facilities.

        Take a tour of the Celestial Seasonings tea factory, open seven days a week for free hourly tours. Visitors are also allowed free samples of all Celestial's flavors. Post tour, browse in the tea shop for discounted Celestial Seasonings products or enjoy a meal or a cup of tea in the café.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Reservations are highly recommended on weekends at the teahouse. Winters can be brutal in Boulder; spring weather is very erratic. Summer and fall are generally the best times to visit. Plan accordingly.

      for a more varied and less touristy visit, i'd add that one might take a hike in Chautauqua Park or anywhere else along the foothills, visit NCAR's Mesa Lab, shop for widgets at the huge McGuckin's Hardware, do some birding at Saw Hill Ponds, and/or explore the nearby mountain towns of Nederland, Gold Hill or Lyons there can indeed be storms in the winter, but Boulder's winter is not so brutal -- it's can even be warm enough to wear shorts in January mid-day; and don't forget that many people visit Boulder in conjunction with snow sports activities, for which late winter and early spring are the ideal times
