Step 1
First hit the 'net. The world wide web is probably the best resource in the world for finding what you need, including green gifts! Google "eco friendly gifts" and you'll receive a wealth of sites dedicated to green shopping. The resources section below has some of the best.
-
Step 2
Make it yourself. An assortment of yummy cookies and candies (made using organic ingredients, of course) packaged in a reusable tin or basket is a welcome treat. Or, create a patchwork quilt or rag rug using old clothes. Using sentimental pieces will make the finished product extra special, and clear out space in your attic!
-
Step 3
Buy used. No, this doesn't mean pick up some useless, ugly trinket at a garage sale or thrift shop (unless you're doing white elephant!). Lots of quality goods are available on ebay. Buying these gently used products keeps them out of landfills and reduces the demand for new production.
-
Step 4
Check local shops. If you can find a craft show or local gallery that supports local artists, stop in and see what they have to offer. These crafts are often made with natural or recycled materials, and you'll be supporting starving artists, not big corporations!
-
Step 5
Give a service, instead of a tangible item. A gift certificate to a local spa for a massage would be a great addition to any woman's gift list. There's no packaging to throw away! Or, you can make homemade coupons good for chores, favors, babysitting, etc. Allow your recipient to redeem them throughout the year- it's the gift that keeps on giving.
