Guess what makes a natural candleholder for fall? A nice, big golden hubbard squash, shaped like a giant gourd. This will be a perfect decoration for Halloween, Thanksgiving or anytime all fall.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Squash
  • Artificial berries
  • Autumn leaf garland
  • Raffia
  • Leaf candle ring
  • Knife
  1. Step 1

Prepare squash by cutting off the narrow top and carving a small hole through the flesh..

  2. Step 2

Insert a candle in the top. Try different sizes and lengths until you find the one that looks best.

  3. Step 3

Place a small candle ring of artificial autumn leaves over the candle to rest at the candle base, on top of the squash.

  4. Step 4

Take apart a spray of artificial berries and use them for eyes, nose and ears. You can also add a stem for the mouth.

  5. Step 5

Place the squash on an upside down bowl to give it some height.

  6. Step 6

Circle a garland of autumn leaves around the base of the squash and add artificial flowers, beads or other decorations.

  7. Step 7

Tie a bow of raffia right about where Mr. Squash's neck would be.

  8. Step 8

    Light the candle and enjoy.

Tips & Warnings
  • A narrow taper size candle will slide all the way to the bottom of the squash, and almost disappear, unless it is extra long. A thicker candle, such as the coach style, has a better appearance.
  • Never leave the candle lit when you are not in the room. It is possible for it to shift as it melts down.
