2. Look at storage space. The average 3-minute song takes up around 3 MB of storage space. If you have a large collection of music, make sure the player you select has the space to store all that music.

3. Check the battery life. If you'd like to use your MP3 player while you go for marathon runs, make sure it has a long battery life. Many models that are more affordable tend to suffer from poor battery life.

4. Compare features. Are there any extras, such as a built-in FM radio or microphone that you just have to have? There are hundreds of these types of features available, but not every model carries them. Make sure your MP3 player offers the options you need before you purchase.

5. Pay attention to size. If you are going to use your player while you work out, try to find the smallest player you can that still offers the features you need.
