Often it is best not to keep loading your body with food when you're feeling uncomfortable or sick, as food may compound the problem. The main purpose of fasting is to help the body to rest, and getting rid of toxins. In these cases, only a short fast is recommended. See your doctor if this purpose is for weight loss or other issues, which of that may need a longer fasting period.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Determination
  • Self-discipline
  1. Step 1

Pick a time when you can slow down enough for resting.

  2. Step 2

Most of us have hectic schedules, so it is best not to just fast with water. Use water, fruit and vegetable juices, but no solid foods. You can fast 1-2 times a month with this. Begin with a 1-3 day water, fruit and vegetable juice. Drink a cup of distilled water every hour. A minimum of 12oz. a variety of juices should be taken daily.

  3. Step 3

The juices will keep your nutrients and electrolytes and the water will flush out the toxins. Tip: drinking lemonade is probably the best way to help speed the detox process.

  4. Step 4

How you break a fast is as important as how you do the fast itself. Do not try to eat normally after fasting for a few days; this will reverse all the therapeutic effects of the fast. Start slowly by eating watery foods the first day breaking the fast: apples, oranges, peaches, avocado, soup, hot cereal... etc. Take as many days to break as you wish.

  5. Step 5

Tips & Warnings
  • The purpose for a short fasting is to help your body to detoxify the years of accumulated "dirt" in your system. You have to psychologically condition yourself ahead of time to prepare for this.
  • Consult a trained therapeutic/alternative medicine professional before cleansing.
