If you happen to be a fan of cereal, or just know people that are, you can probably get your hands on quite a few cereal boxes. Instead of just throwing them out in the garbage or putting them in the recycling bin, consider reusing them. Empty cereal boxes can be used for quite a few things and you may end up saving yourself a few dollars in the process.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Brown paper on a roll
  • Tape
  • Con-Tact paper
  • Scissors
  • Mod podge

Use it for shipping. The cost of buying boxes and mailing envelopes can add up. If you have an empty cereal box you can mail items in it. It can be used for non-fragile and non-heavy items. Put a mailing tape across the bottom of the box and press it down. Put your items inside, close the flaps on the top and tape it closed with mailing tape. Take brown paper on a roll, which can be purchased in any office supply store, and wrap up your cereal box. Write your address on the front and your package is ready to go.

  2. Step 2

Make a shot glass holder. Tape up both ends of the empty cereal box and wrap it up in patterned Con-Tact paper. The space that you will need in between each cut-out depends on how many shot glasses you will be using. Measure it out and make your marks where you want the cut-outs to be. Flip your shot glass over and trace the top onto the paper. Cut out your circles then place your shot glasses in them. The holder will keep your glasses from moving around and having the liquid spill. It's a great idea to put this out for a party or a get-together.

  3. Step 3

Use it as packaging for gifts. Instead of going out and buying a box to wrap gifts up in, consider using an empty cereal box. Put the paper around your box as if you were getting ready to tape it. Make sure that the paper also extends over the top flaps. When you have the paper measured out, put a very thin coat of Mod Podge on the front part of the box, on the bottom and on the sides then place your paper on it. Run your hand over it out so there are no wrinkles. When it dries, flip it over and do the same to the other side. As far as the top flaps, trim the paper to match them, then glue the paper on them as well. After it dries, you can put your gifts in it. It takes only minutes to make your own personalized gift box out of something you would have thrown out.

  4. Step 4

Create storage under your bathroom sink. Sometimes the area under the sink can be small when you need to store items there. Considering some of these items are probably odd-shaped, you may find them falling over instead of neat and orderly. You can lay the box down, stand it up and you also can stack one on top of the other. The items will fit inside and stay organized. Wrap the box with clear Con-Tact paper so you can make it look nicer and also wipe it down if it gets a dirty.
