Things You'll Need:
- Loofah
- Body scrub
- Tanning lotion

Step 1
Exfoliate your skin before tanning. If you suffer from dry skin, it's important to exfoliate before visiting the tanning bed. The light from the tanning bed can reflect off the dry skin, causing uneven tanning. Using a dry loofah before bathing will remove dry skin. If you prefer an in-shower method, purchase body scrubs that remove dry skin and leave you with a fresh scent.
-
Step 2
Apply tanning lotion evenly. If tanning lotion is not applied evenly, your tan may be uneven. Obviously, it can be hard to apply tanning lotion in certain areas. If at all possible, visit the tanning salon with a friend. That way you can help each other apply tanning lotion.
-
Step 3
Remove the pillow so that your neck tans evenly. Tanning salons usually include pillows in their tanning beds to make the experience more comfortable. The problem is that these pillows block light from hitting your neck, causing a very uneven tan. Removing the pillow ensures that your neck gets as much light as the rest of your body.
-
Step 4
Spread your arms and legs. It may seem natural to lie in a tanning bed with your legs together and arms by your side. However, this position prevents the insides of your legs and arms from tanning evenly.
-
Step 5
Rotate your body at equal intervals. It can be hard to get your sides to tan evenly. To get the most even tan, rotate your body throughout the session. For example, rotate to the left a bit for 5 minutes and then to the right for 5 more minutes.
