Dooney & Bourke handbags are designed to last for years, but that can change if they are not given proper care. Since the fabrics inside may change from bag to bag, you must find out when you get the bag if there are any specific instructions about its care and upkeep. The Dooney website does suggest these general steps that should cover most of its products. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

If the fabric gets wet, Dooney's care page says to blot the bag with a dry white or light-colored cloth. If there is an oil spot, wipe away the excess liquid, then sprinkle talcum powder on the area. Let the talcum powder sit for a short while, then use a dry toothbrush to brush away the powder.

    • 2

For spot cleaning, dampen a cloth with distilled water and mild bar soap. Use it in a circular motion on the fabric. Rinse the cloth out and rinse the inside of the bag again with distilled water. Let the fabric air dry completely before using the bag.

    • 3

For general dust and debris, put the soft brush attachment on the nozzle of a vacuum and run it all around the empty purse. Do this about once a month, or more often if the purse is exposed to many dusty and dirty areas.

Always use clean, white towels to remove soap or excess water. Avoid getting the leather trim wet since it may bleed or spot.
