Make Liquid Lavender Soap

Liquid lavender soap is a versatile personal cleanser, which can be used as a face soap, body wash and shampoo. The soap won't dry out delicate skin or cause hair to feel brittle like other soaps. The natural essential oil leaves a relaxing scent of lavender that lasts all day long. The liquid lavender soap is chemical-free and is great for people with sensitive skin.

Things You'll Need

  • One bar of clear soap (castile, glycerin or olive oil)
  • 2 ½ cups water
  • ¼ cup glycerin
  • Lavender essential oil
  • Sharp knife or grater
  • Microwave-safe medium-size bowl
  • Bottles or jars with tops
  • Microwave oven

Instructions

    • 1

Grate the bar of soap or chop it into small cubes. Pour the soap shavings/cubes into the bowl.

    • 2

Pour 2 ½ cups of water into the bowl and stir well.

    • 3

Heat the soap and water mixture in the microwave at 50 percent power for 45 seconds. Remove the bowl from the microwave.

    • 4

Stir the soap and water mixture. Place the bowl back into the microwave and heat the mixture at 10-second intervals until the mixture liquefies. Do not overheat.

    • 5

Remove the liquid soap from the microwave. Stir the glycerin and four to six drops of the lavender essential oil into the liquid soap. Keep stirring until the mixture becomes cool to the touch.

    • 6

Pour the liquid lavender soap into the clean bottles or jars and cap. Store in a cool dark place for up to three months.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't have a microwave, use a double boiler to melt the soap. A quick do-it-yourself double-boiler method is to place a clean coffee can inside a saucepan of boiling water. Place the soap shavings into the can and stir until melted.

  • Melted soap is very hot and can cause burns. Use caution when handling and keep small children out of the way.
