Things You'll Need:
- A book
- A Tape or CD
- Someone that knows the language.
- Time
- Dedication
- A dictionary
-
Step 1
First thing that you must do is go to a nearby store and find a good cd or tape that has a native speaker of the language that you would like to learn. Also buy a book that goes along with the tape and a dictionary.
-
Step 2
Begin by listening to the tape for several hours until you can get a good feel for the sound of the accents. First listen through for the sounds and pronunciation and repeat everything that is said to the best of your ability. At this point please do not look at the book.
-
Step 3
The next step is to open the book and follow along as the speaker says each line. Repeat and read along with the book and native speaker. Continue to do this for a week. The next step is to look up common words and place them around your house. After a few weeks of looking up common words listen to the tapes and try to pick out words that you have heard.
-
Step 4
Continue this process until you understand about 75% of what is beings said. At this point write down words that you do not recognize. Anytime during this process you need to practice with a native if at all possible so that they can help critique your accent. Do not be timid because you have to make mistakes to learn a language.
