Things You'll Need:
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup salt
- 2 tsp cream of tartar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp oil (to keep dough from hardening)
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp allspice
- 1/4 tsp ginger
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
-
Step 1
In a large bowl, mix all of the dry ingredients together. (Flour, spices, salt, and cream of tartar). In a medium to large saucepan, add the water and oil. Turn on heat to medium high and begin warming the mixture.
-
Step 2
Add the dry mixture to the water and oil in saucepan and mix until well incorporated with wire whisk. Heat mixture for two to three minutes, stirring frequently until the mixture begins to pull away from the side of the pan.
-
Step 3
Once the dough has started pulling away from the side of the pan, remove pan from heat. Allow the mixture to cool, than remove the dough from the pan and place on a kneading board. Knead the dough until it begins to form a ball and begins to have a soft and smooth appearance.
-
Step 4
Store your gingerbread playdough in an airtight container to prevent dough from drying out. Use gingerbread cookie cutters, non sharp knifes, and rolling pins when playing with the gingerbread playdough.
