Cutting a fresh pineapple can seem intimidating, but you'll soon find, it's not so hard, and well worth it! Fresh pineapple is much more crisp and tart than the mushy and sickeningly sweet canned version. Here's how I cut one up.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • pineapple
  • sharp knife
  1. Step 1

Cut your pineapple in half, lengthwise. (from the top to bottom through the crown)

  2. Step 2

Cut the top off of each half.

  3. Step 3

Cut the halves, in half, ending up with 4 quarters.

  4. Step 4

Slice the core off the top of each quarter. Be careful not to cut too deep, just take the top 1/2" or so off, just the hard part.

  5. Step 5

Now you want to slice the outer surface (husk) off the fruit. Cut as close to the surface as possible, like you would fillet a fish. The sharper your knife, the easier this will be, just be careful not to cut yourself!

  6. Step 6

Now dice up the pineapple fruit and enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Because it contains enzymes, pineapple is a great meat tenderizer.
  • Pineapple is a great source of manganese and Vitamins B1 and C.
  • Pineapple should not be consumed by persons with Hemophilia, or liver or kidney disease, as it can reduce the time it takes for the blood to coagulate.
