Things You'll Need:
- saddle soap
- 3 soft cloths or sponges(preferably made for leather)
- leather or mink oil
-
Step 1
Apply the soap. Lightly dampen a soft cloth (sponges work nicely as well), and work the saddle soap into a lather. Apply the lather to the unfinished leather item in a circular motion. Apply a little elbow grease, and work the lather into the grain of the leather.
-
Step 2
Wipe away the lather. Using another, dry soft cloth or sponge. Be sure that the item is completely free of soap residue to prevent buildup.
-
Step 3
Apply a leather preservitive. Mink oil has always been my favorite unfinished leather preservative, but there are many other types of leather oils out there. Do not use baby oil, or any other type of oil made for human skin. Apply the oil to a new soft cloth or sponge. Work the oil into the unfinished leather in a circular motion. Be sure to evenly apply the preservative.
