Is the garage your domain? Do spend most of your time here? Are you a car junkie? Or a handy man type? Maybe you have decorated your entire house and now you are going to tackle the garage? Either way, you'll probably be looking into options for the floor. One direction to turn is towards garage floor tiles. You can hire a company to come in and install whatever design you desire, or you may want to attempt to install them yourself. These helpful steps will guide you through this home project.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mallet
  • Utility knife
  • Tape measure
  • Chalk line
  • Knee pads
  • Floor tiles
  1. Step 1

Determine the style and color you want for your garage. Floor tiles come in a variety of colors and textures. Design your floor pattern utilizing the different colors.

  2. Step 2

Understand that tools and materials are minimal for this project. You will need a mallet, utility knife, tape measure, chalk line and a pair of knee pads.

  3. Step 3

Keep in mind that installation is simple.

  4. Step 4

Start at the center of the floor and work outwards. Continue in a circular pattern. Following your pattern, snap the tile pieces together.

  5. Step 5

Use the mallet to aid in the interlocking tabs of the floor tiles if they don't snap into place easily.

  6. Step 6

As you work your pattern on the floor, if you reach the edge and need a smaller tile you can easily cut the tile using the utility knife to fit the space required.

  7. Step 7

Know that tile application can be varied and is not limited to a garage floor. Consider applying tiles in a warehouse, a factory floor, a playroom, laboratories, control rooms, offices, catering kitchens, sporting facilities, schools and airport terminals.

  8. Step 8

Understand that problems in floor covering applications can be caused by moisture. Floor tiles are not affected by moisture. The tiles can be laid on top of an existing floor and they do not adhere to the floor so there is no glue bubbling.

  9. Step 9

Know that cleaning installed floor tiles is better done on a regular basis with a light application rather than infrequently cleaning with strong chemicals.
