Things You'll Need:
- Patience
- Time
- Consistency
-
Step 1
Ignore bad behaviors unless there is a safety risk to your child or someone else.
-
Step 2
Praise, praise, and praise some more. Children love to have praise. Since you're ignoring bad behaviors be sure to say nice things about your child when they are doing having good behavior.
-
Step 3
Give the child choices. You can say, "You can come over and sit down or I can help you come and sit down".
-
Step 4
Make everything fun. If it's bedtime, you can give your child a choice of walking to bed like a robot or a hopping like a bunny.
-
Step 5
Give transition warnings. If it's time to clean up in 10 minutes, give the child a warning a minute or two before you have to clean up.
-
Step 6
You can make a behavior chart and when things go okay for a certain amount of time (a week is best) you can reward them with a fun trip somewhere fun. If you don't have much money, you can always do something simple like a bike ride or a picnic in the park.
-
Step 7
If discipline is necessary, give a time-out with the child for four minutes. During time-out don't speak to the child. The child must just sit or stand in the spot you choose and do nothing except for think quietly.

on 12/16/2008 Positive discipline produces kids with positive values. As parents, we have to be consistent in giving this kind of discipline to our children.
