Do you bite your nails compulsively? It's a disgusting habit. Want to quit it? Then read this article about how to stop biting your nails. WARNING: It's a nail biter.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • access to the web
  • nail biting products
  • acrylic nails
  • rubberband
  • stress ball
  • gum
  1. Step 1

First, research all of your options. The Internet can offer many suggestions. All the way from hypnosis to specially designed products made just for nail biters. I suggest start with the cheapest options first.

  2. Step 2

For your first attempt, try placing a rubberband around your wrist. Whenever you catch yourself biting, pull on the rubberband. It will then cause a slight pain on your wrist. The idea of this is that you will begin to associate nail biting with pain and, thus, cease your nail biting.

  3. Step 3

However, if that still doesn't work try keeping your hands busy. Whenever you feel the urge to bite, grab a stress ball. A lot of nail biters bite because of the amount of stress they endure.

  4. Step 4

Pop in some gum. Keeping your mouth busy will keep those fingers out of it.

  5. Step 5

However, you can only chew gum for so long. What I find that works the best for me is to have acrylic nails put on. I love the appearance of them and it helps me resist the urge to chew on them. However, if I do slip-up the nails can with stand the biting.

  6. Step 6

That last step might not work so well for the highly masculine man, so I suggest purchase other nail biting products. There are nail polishes one can purchase that taste horrid after being painted on nails.

  7. Step 7

Finally, try hypnosis. The web offers downloadable versions of hypnosis for nail biters, so you may not have to go to a professional.

Tips & Warnings
  • Beware of online scams. Scammers will try to get money out of consumers anyway they can. Be sure that any website you purchase products from is legit.
