Use Sesame Seed Oil as an Ingredient in Recipes

If you don't know already, one of the best kept secrets in cooking is sesame seed oil. It is a fantastic ingredient in many dishes. Here are some tips on how to use this neat ingredient...

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sesame Oil
  • Creativity
  1. Step 1

One of the most common uses for it is in some kind of stir fry. The most simplest is stir fried rice, possibly with some vegetables. Don't overdo it since it doesn't take a lot of the oil to get that nice taste and odor. But it'll depend on your own taste buds. Try experimenting to see how much you like. It also goes very well with stir fried vegetables and some kind of meat (chicken, beef, etc.).

  2. Step 2

One really nice way to use sesame oil is to drizzle it over some kind of noodles or pasta, especially if they are cold. The oil will act as the main ingredient in giving the dish some identity (e.g., much like spaghetti sauce gives noodles its identity as a dish).

  3. Step 3

When using this oil, keep in mind that when you heat it up, it loses a lot of its smell and flavor. In fact, if you're not careful, you could burn the oil and may even give off a slightly bitter taste. So, try to use most of the oil at the end as a "flavor ingredient" rather than as a cooking ingredient. In stir fries, it's not a big deal to cook with it as the heat is usually not that high.

on 12/3/2008 Sesame seed oil is something I rarely use. I'll have to add that to my list to give it a try. Thanks!
