How to Create and Save a Genius Playlist in iTunes

The Genius feature of iTunes 8 analyzes your current iTunes Library and recommends music from the iTunes store that you may like. You can also create playlists with music from your iTunes Library (and the iTunes store) based on a specific song you select. Here is how.

How to Start Using Genius

1. Launch iTunes. Make sure you have version 8.0 or higher.

2. Select "Genius" from the list of Playlists on the left of the screen.

3. 

   Hit the "Turn On Genius" button if you haven't used Genius in iTunes before.

4. 

   Enter your Apple ID and password and click the button labeled "Continue." Apple will begin the process of analyzing your iTunes library in order to figure out what music to recommend.

5. 

   Click on the button that looks like an arrow in a rectangle to the right of the Genius symbol at the bottom right of the iTunes window to show the Genius Sidebar.

6. 

   Select any song in your Library and Genius will recommend songs for you on the Genius sidebar.

How to Create and Save a Genius Playlist

1. Launch iTunes if you haven't already.

2. 

   Right-click on the song that best suits your mood and select "Start Genius." You can also click on a song and click on the Genius symbol on the bottom right of the iTunes screen, or you can also select the Genius symbol when a song is playing next to the album and song title at the top of the iTunes window.

3. 

   Select how long you want your playlist by selecting the number of songs at the top right of the screen. Click on the drop-down menu next to "Limit to:" and choose how many songs you want in your Genius playlist.

4. 

   Select the "Save Playlist" button at the top right of the iTunes window to save your playlist. Your iTunes Genius playlist is automatically labeled with the song you originally selected.

5. 

   Rename the playlist by clicking on the new Genius playlist. Wait until the name is editable and type in your new name.

6. 

   Delete the playlist by right-clicking the name of your Genius Playlist and selecting "Delete." You can also export this playlist or burn it to CD with this same menu.
