Teens Can Make Money Too!
Teens Can Make Money Too!

When you're a teen, it can be really hard to get a job because of age restrictions and a lack of transportation. But you already know this, right? Here are some ways that you can make some serious money while you are still a teen.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • motivation
  • references
  1. Step 1

First of all, let me start with letting you know that selling drugs is not easy money. You know, jail and all that. However, you can sell something. Find a product, mark it up, and sell it on your website or directly to family and friends. If you're a girl, you might want to focus on selling a product like Avon's MARK. If you're a guy, you could lose your rep on this one, but there are plenty of other products to sell. Rims, for example.

  2. Step 2

Consider creating your own product. Yes, a lot of people make earrings, but how many girls only have one pair? Jewelry is something that there is always a market for. You can learn how to make candles and sell them at the farmer's market or street festivals. Just make sure to do the math so you make a profit!

  3. Step 3

If you like not working at all, try babysitting. If you babysit a small child at around 8 in the evening, and the kids parents are not the type who let their rugrats run around until midnight, then you can watch tv, eat snacks and snoop in the bedroom drawers. Oops. Scratch that last one. It could get you fired. Quick tip: If you want MAJOR bucks from babysitting, try charging $100 per kid on New Year's Eve and having the kids spend the night at your house. Of course, the parents will probably feel better if your parents are at home.

  4. Step 4

Take advantage of the weather. If there has just been a wind storm, then offer to rake your neighbor's leaves. Mow yards. Shovel snow. Okay, it's not easy money to earn, but it is easy to get these jobs. Make it even easier by promoting yourself professionally with business cards and signs.

  5. Step 5

Clean houses. You can make $20 an hour cleaning houses in some markets. Again, promote yourself professionally. For safety reasons, this is a good gig to do with a friend. Just make sure the friend has the same work ethic you do.

  6. Step 6

Offer your services reformating computers, tutoring, reading to dyslexic students, whatever. If you are good at advanced math or science, be aware that you could make $50 an hour if you present yourself professionally and know how to convey information to other people.

  7. Step 7

Flip domains instead of burgers. Watch for new domains to come on the market that you know other people will want. Buy them on GoDaddy and resell them. If you're good at design or programming, sell your services to the multitudes on the web who aren't good at those things. "Make Money Online" forums are a great way to market your services and sell domains.

  8. Step 8

Be a pet sitter. As I write this article, I'm wondering if I'm going to get to go on vacation this Christmas because I don't know who will take care of my dog. No one is marketing their services, either. I would pay $30 just for someone to stop by once a day and feed them. Along this same line is being a dog walker. Don't try that one, though, unless you're a "dog person".

  9. Step 9

If you live in a place where movies are made, see if you can become an extra in a movie. My son did this and got $50 an hour. He had lots of fun as well!

  10. Step 10

Look at what adults are doing to make money. Not all of them have degrees. My brother sells scrap metal on the side and uses the money to make his car payment. Other adults repair things like washing machines. Is there someone who could teach you a trade? If so, you could be making big bucks if you're willing to work and learn at the same time.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always, always present yourself in a professional manner. Business cards are especially impressive.
  • Don't let people take advantage of you. You are NOT going to make tons of money taking surveys. Sorry.

on 12/18/2008 Great ideas! I'd add shoveling snow - if you live somewhere cold, people will pay top dollar to get their driveways and sidewalks shoveled! 5*
