Instructions

      Everyone starts somewhere

First things first, you need to time yourself and see what your mile (mile and a half) time is now. Then set a goal for yourself as to where you want to be and when you want to be there. The more you run the better you get.

Use a treadmill to improve yourself. It's good to run outdoors to time yourself, but to get better you need to run for longer periods of time and running on a treadmill is going to help. You can run no matter what the weather and most gyms have tv's so you can watch while you run.

    • 3

Run for longer periods of time. Each time you hop on the treadmill or hit the track, try to go farther then you did the last time. If your starting out, go for as long as you can, then set a goal for 5 minutes longer. When you reach that goal, add another 5, or another 10.

    • 4

Once you can get on the treadmill and stay up there for more than 30 minutes, watch how fast you are running. Then each time you come back, push yourself just a little faster, and a little faster. 6 MPH is a 10 minute mile and 9 MPH is a 10 minute mile and a half.

Tips & Warnings

  • Push yourself. The only way to run faster is to train to run longer and faster each time you hit the treadmill.

  • A good diet helps too, cut back or cut out the junk food.

  • Run with a partner, encourage each other to run on the days you want to give in.

  • Don't over do it. Pushing yourself is good, but if you can't run for a week following, you might want to take it easy on yourself.

  • Stretch out before and after your run, your muscles will thank you in the morning.

  • Keep hydrated!
