Want to buy presents for kids in this tight economic climate? Here are several options.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ability/Willingness to shop around
  • Internet
  • Money/Credit if you must
  • An idea of what the kids like
  1. Step 1

One of the easiest ways in this economic climate to shop for kids is your local Dollar Store Or Family Dollar as if you didn't already know.
-Don't be afraid to shop between these stores and some others such as Rite Aid and the like for better deals especially on toys.
-Don't be hung up on brand name toys they are all too often more expensive not better made.

  2. Step 2

Purchase toys that will possibly work well together such as buying a hot wheels track set and additional cars to use on it. Or for little girls buying several smaller items such as anything with High School the Musical on them at this time can be a no brainer but, get associated things they might be able to use in combination also.

  3. Step 3

Purchasing items on EBay is not a bad idea depending on what your attempting to purchase. I purchased a DVD/CD Combo brand new from the High School the Musical Live show for my daughter which she will love for less than 7.00 with shipping. I bought two batman figurines for my boys for less than 6.00 with shipping!

  4. Step 4

Just because an item does not come in a package does not make it bad, it makes it easier than listening to impatient kids wanting the package opened on Christmas morning.

So, if you buy an item online or even at a Goodwill which can sometimes have some nice used toys/clothes for kids to utilize that isn't a bad thing in this tight economic climate.

  5. Step 5

I got about 6 items per child for less than $80.00 and no I didn't purchase any video games, electronic items they have enough of those as most kids do.

Though you can get games, items for good deals I saw some great deals on MP3 players, etc. in both Family Dollar and Rite Aid while I was shopping just in my small hometown.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't be afraid to avoid Brand Names
  • Don't be afraid to get smaller toys to be able to get more toys
  • Check out online sales on both EBay and your local stores such as WalMart, etc.
  • Be aware buying online can take time make sure you have enough time to get items wrapped for Christmas
  • Brand name items can use up your money quickly
  • Bigger toys are not necessarily better (kids love more to open vs.. one big item)
  • Avoid online ads on the sides if you do not know the site.

on 12/1/2008 Love #4...I HATE opening all the packages on Christmas morning. I'm going to make it a new rule, nothing in a box! Seriously, great article.
