Blogger is a very popular Google product for anyone who wants to create a web presence and has a passion for writing about different topics. Unfortunately Google does not offer too many templates and a user is usually stuck using one of Blogger’s templates. This problem can be easily circumvented by learning how to install the many free templates available on the internet. However there are some things you need to know before you can successfully install a blogger template.

Things You'll Need:

  • Blogger Account
  1. Step 1

    Start with a Google search for: “Free Blogger Templates”. Once you find a template that’s appropriated for your blog, download it to your PC.

  2. Step 2

    Sign in to Blogger Dashboard. And click on “Layout”

  3. Step 3

    After uploading any new Blogger template, all of your previous widgets like your profile, poll, adsense ads, etc. will be lost. In order to copy your information, click edit of each widget, in Layout-Page Elements, and copy the information to notepad. If this is a new blog you will less information to back up.

  4. Step 4

    Next, click on the “Edit HTML” tab.

  5. Step 5

    If this is an existing blog, backup your existing template by clicking, on download the current template.

  6. Step 6

    Upload your new template that you downloaded to your PC by clicking on “Browse” to locate your template and then click on “Upload”

  7. Step 7

    A message will appear stating that your widgets are about to be deleted. Click on “Confirm & Save”. In Step 3 you copied your widget code to your notepad.

  8. Step 8

    If your new template has images, they will have to be uploaded to a photo sharing service, like Photo Bucket. Each image URL, from Photo Bucket or whatever service you use, will have to be edited into the template code.

  9. Step 9

    Edit each URL in the Template code to point to the image on your file sharing service. See the image in this step for the first URL code change.
