Make Baby Onesie Cookies

These adorable cookies are perfect to serve at a baby shower. They also make great baby shower favors or gifts for the Mom-to-be. Just package them and tie with a pretty ribbon.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sugar Cookie Dough
  • Icing
  • Pastry bags
  • Very small round tip
  • Food coloring
  • Baby Onesie Cookie Cutter
  • Small offset spatula
  1. Step 1

Using Sugar Cookie Dough of your choice, roll out and cut shapes with Baby Onesie Cutter.

  2. Step 2

Place Baby Onesie cut outs on baking sheet (I use a stoneware baking sheet, but any sheet will do). Bake according to recipe directions. Place on cooling rack. Cookies must be completely cool before icing.

  3. Step 3

Using icing of your choice, reserve a small amount of plain, then use food coloring to make desired colors. For baby cookies, you probably want to make soft pastel colors.

  4. Step 4

Using a small offset spatula, spread a thin layer of icing onto the cookies. Do your best to make it smooth.

  5. Step 5

Put the small pastry tip into a plastic pastry bag. Fill with the plain white icing. Pipe the outline of the Baby Onesie, and the seams of the garment as well (see picture for details).

  6. Step 6

Finally, write "Baby" across the middle of the cookie. Allow to set, and enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure your dough remains cold while rolling. If it gets too warm, it will become sticky and hard to work with. Also, don't be afraid to use a liberal amount of flour when rolling.
  • You can find pastry bags and piping tips at craft stores such as A.C. Moore, or the craft section of Walmart. You can also buy them online from Wilton or Ateco.
  • If you don't have a sugar cookie and icing recipe that you like, use mine "How To Make Delicious Sugar Cookies". Just make the icing a little thicker by adding less milk.
  • Have fun with the decorating! Experiment with different colors and designs.
  • If you can't find a Baby Onesie cookie cutter in a store, look online. There are many online sites that sell copper cookie cutters in all shapes.
  • It may take a little practice to get the piped lines straight and even. Practice on a piece of parchment or any flat surface. The key is to control the amount of pressure you place on the bag.
  • Do not attempt to stack or package these cookies until the frosting is fully set (at least 24 hours). Even then, the frosting will remain soft.
