If the floor is painted, you will need these sanders.People will try to tell you to use chemical strippers as an easy way out ,but it is a waste of time and money.

  4. Step 4

Talk to the people at the store that you are renting the sanders from. They will explain how the equipment works and how to change the sandpaper on the machines.

  5. Step 5

Get ready to sand away! Depending on how large of an area you intend on restoring , there is an investment of time to get started. The only prep work that you should do is to go around the room feeling for any nails that might be in the floor as nails will tear your sandpaper.

  6. Step 6

Sand the areas that are painted until you see the natural wood floor completely free of paint.Keep a broom handy and sweep as you go so you can see your results.

  7. Step 7

After, you have sanded the hardwood and have restord it back to it's natural state. Pick your stain . Take a rag and dip it into the stain, apply it to the floor once it has been swept clean and as you apply with one rag go behind with another to blend in any excess stain. After, you allow it to dry for 48 hours you can apply the polyurathane to seal it and you are done!

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that you handle any chemicals as instructed and in well ventelated areas.
  • Talk with the people at your hardware store concerning how to apply the polyurethane.
