Christmas is a time when you can be creative and make just abut anything. Satin ball ornaments for the tree are a real treat to make. You can be as creative as you want. You can have multiple colored satin balls or all one color. You can decorate a tree with satin balls and avoid using garland if you use enough satin balls and bright colored decorations. Making the satin ball Christmas ornaments does not take long and you can do it with the kids. You can buy craft kits or make your own. Here is just one of the many satin ball ornaments you can make.

Things You'll Need

  • 4 Satin foam ball
  • 72 inches gold braiding
  • 4 gold crowns
  • 4 round head corsage pins
  • 4 pear corsage pins
  • 4 gold filigree caps
  • 16 gold filigree discs
  • 255 3mm round white beads
  • 67 5mm Kelly green cup sequins
  • 28 emerald roundels (flat head)
  • 275 3/4 inch pins

Instructions

    • 1

      Divide the ball into quarter. Starting at the top of the satin ball, divide the sating ball into four equal sections by pinning two lengths of gold braid around the ball at right angles. Pull braid tightly and fasten with pins on each end.

      Decorate open spaces. Make four units consisting of a pin inserted thru a white roundel bead. Insert one of these units thru the center hole in each of the filigree discs and pin one disc in the center of each of the four open spaces. Pin a white bead thru the holes at the end of each petal of the filigree disc.

      Decorate the top of the satin ball ornament. Make a hanger loop from 6 inches gold braid, overlapping the ends and pinning then securely to the top center of the ball. Slip the three-ring crown over the loop with the small end of the crown up and fasten in place with the round headed corsage pin.

      Decorate the bottom of the satin ball ornament. Make a unit by inserting the pear shaped corsage pin thru two roundel (flat) beads and thru the gold filigree bell cap. Pin this unit to the exact bottom center of the satin ball.

      Complete the satin ball ornament by decorating the dividing strips of the satin ball. Decorate each strip of the braid with four units each consisting of a pin thru a white bead and a sequin (cup side up).

Tips & Warnings

  • You can follow the picture or make your own designs.

  • Once you know how to do these satin ball ornaments, you can do more with different designs.

  • Beads are small and long fingernails can cause beads to fly around.

  • Some beads will have uneven holes that you might not want to use.
